Close up Photo

Birdfoot Deervetch (Lotus corniculatus), also known as Bird’s Foot Trefoil or Bacon and Eggs, is in the Pea family and is native to Eurasia and North Africa. It is a perennial herbaceous plant with stems trailing on the ground and rooting, their tips turning upward and stalks with loose heads of yellow  and orange flowers. It flowers during the months of May through September. It also develops small pods which resemble a bird’s foot, thus its common name. It is found in fields and roadsides.
