Invasive Species in Amherst State Park

Vicia lathyroided - Spring Vetch

    Spring Vetch (Vica lathyroided) is in the Bean family and is native to Europe and western Asia. It is an annual herb with a creeping growth habit and stand no more than 2-3 inches high.  The leaves have two to four pairs of leaflets. It has pealike blue or purple-tinged flowers about 1/8 inch wide and hairless legume pods up to 1 inch long. Spring vetch blooms in May through June. By midsummer each flower has formed a miniature pea pod
